Text <div id="subnav">[Editorial group] [Contact] [Project partners]</div> Claire Doherty is Senior Research Fellow in Fine Art at the University of the West of England, Bristol. As a curator and writer, she leads Situations, a research programme devised to investigate the significance of place and context through the commissioning of new works in Bristol within a context of critical debate and study. Doherty was Curator of Exhibitions at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham from 1995-2000, Projects Curator at Spike Island, Bristol from 2000-1, and Associate Curator for the Foundation for Art and Creative Technology (FACT), Liverpool from 2001-4. She lectures widely on curatorial issues pertaining to the significance of place and locational identities and has published in a diverse range of art magazines, journals and exhibition catalogues. Most recently she edited Contemporary Art: From Studio to Situation (Black Dog Publishing), a comprehensive volume of critical essays, interviews and case studies providing a timely investigation into an increasingly significant (and contested) field of art practice. http://www.situations.org.uk
